The scheme has now been submitted to Basildon Borough Council, reference number: 20/01633/FULL. Plans include:
Demolition of existing structures at Great Oaks Retail Park
Building of 300 residential units aimed at first time buyers
Integrated gardens on balconies as well as access to wellness rooms and indoor gardens with vertical farming
Local community ground floor uses including spaces for charities, local business and an art studio that will be made available to local artists
An art competition was run for local artists to design a permanent installation along the Broadmayne façade that also includes a bursary to support their growth
GS8 have partnered with a local ecology group to ensure the central courtyard and roof gardens will create a new habitat for local species and ensure the longevity of a self-sustaining ecosystem

Public realm improvements including a landscaped courtyard open to the public as well as residents

The project will set a new benchmark for sustainable development in Basildon, being constructed from off-site fabricated modules, powered by integrated façade and roof PVs and heat pumps and designed with regenerative and biophilic principles at its core
